Obituary
Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Marie “Amelia” Boucher passed away on January 30, 2022 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born in Cheticamp, Cape Breton on December 31, 1944 she was the daughter of the late Simon Joe and Evelyn (Deveau) Chiasson.
Amelia cherished and loved her family more than anything. She was open minded and accepting of everyone. Amelia was known for her kindness, selflessness, and sense of humour, often making herself a target to put a smile on someone’s face.
Amelia spent many years working on the Princess of Acadia as a server where she made many friends. The work she was the proudest of was the 40+ years she spent creating beautiful Cheticamp hooked rugs. In 2017, one of her rugs was chosen to be presented to the Queen for her birthday.
She will always be cherished with loving memories by her loving husband Merle Boucher; daughters Lola Lelievre (Clarence) of Cheticamp, Cape Breton Annette Larade (Everett) of Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Cindy Groundwater (Tracey) of Saint John, NB; son Michael Burns (Sandra) of St. Albert, AB; sisters Elizabeth Chiasson (Soul Sister and Best Friend) of Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Diane Chiasson of Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Adele Larade (Michel) of Halifax, NS; brothers Richard Chiasson (Anne) of Turo, NS, Tommy Chiasson (Joanne) of Halifax, NS, Placide Chiasson (Carla) of Turo, NS; her beautiful grandchildren Jason Larade (Justine), Mika Burns, Koby Burns, and the apple of her eye, Amelia Barry and great grandchildren Nevaeh and Ryan Larade, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Amelia was predeceased by her stepfather Joseph Romard, sister-in-law Roberta Boucher and very special feline companion Melvin.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Interment will take place in Nova Scotia at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made towards the Alzheimer’s Society or to Bobby’s Hospice.
