Dieter Billinger Friday January 28th 2022

BILLINGER, Dieter –
April 1946 – January 2022
Passed away peacefully, at age 75, on Thursday, January 28, 2022, with family by his side. Dieter was a loving husband, father, Opa, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend to so many. Loving husband of Jo-Anne. Amazing Dad to Tristan (Christine) and Ryan (Anika). Doting Opa to his grandchildren James, Ava, Julia, and Louisa. Dear Brother to Michael (Marie), and Brother-in-law to Irene Billinger, Barbara Brubacher (Sheldon), Judy Pearce (Dave), and the late Diane Semeniuk (Arnold). Loving Uncle Dee to Jason, Stacey, Stephanie, and Terry and great-uncle Dee to Ben, Heidi, Ethan, and Olivia. He leaves his cousins in Germany, Birgit and Peter (Elizabeth). Predeceased by his twin brother Ralph (Irene) and his parents Brigitta and Walter Billinger. Dieter lived what he always said was a blessed life. Those who knew and loved him felt blessed by his presence in their lives. Dieter was kind, generous, caring and gentle, and he had a good sense of humour. He was loved deeply and will be missed dearly. Family meant everything to Dieter and he had long-lasting friendships which were so valued. Dieter was a good musician, playing guitar, and keyboard. For several years he played double bass with the Timothy Eaton Memorial Orchestra. Music was always an important part of his life. He played in a band, the Zebulons in his younger years. In recent years, he enjoyed playing music on Wednesday afternoons with Mike in their musical group, The Fabulous Zebulons. He was a member of the St. Nick’s lunch club where the boys gathered to enjoy one another’s company. Dieter loved to be with family and friends and the door to their home was always open. His career was one in the field of commercial electronics. For many years, he had a store in downtown Toronto, Dee Electronics. For a few years, on a part-time basis, he taught recording studio engineering at Humber College. He worked at The Royal Ontario Museum and Planetarium as supervisor of electronics for a decade. On retirement at age 50, he had 25 years of retired life to enjoy. For many of those years, he made beautiful guitars and he loved to work with wood. He helped his sons renovate their homes, and he was always working on a project or two at home. He enjoyed restoring antique radios. He loved to tinker and could fix or make anything for his family and for everyone who asked. If anyone needed a part for something, they came to Dieter. Dieter took wonderful care of his family and his home. Family meant everything to Dieter. He loved to cook, garden and tinker away in his workshop and office, always building something or planning his next project. In the days before his passing, he was working on making mechanical robots for his grandchildren. Dieter was born in Heidelberg Germany and came to Canada with his family as a young boy. He was raised in the Beaches, and after marriage, Jo-Anne and Dieter and their family made Scarborough their home. In the last decade, he enjoyed winters in Jaco, Costa Rica where he made a wide circle of friends from all over the world and where they all enjoyed “Beer O’Clock” in the pool between 3 and 4 pm each day. We thank the paramedic team which came to our home and Toronto Police and Fire – they are the finest team we could have asked for. We thank The Scarborough Hospital for the care received in his final days. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newediuk Funeral Home, Kipling Chapel. Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be no private viewing or service at this time. A service of interment of ashes and Christian burial at St. John’s Norway cemetery will take place in the warm weather and a celebration of life party with family and friends to honour Dieter’s life will take place in the summer, or when we can gather safely together outside. Donations in Dieter’s memory can be made to The Church of St. Paul the Apostle, Rexdale, or The Scarborough Hospital. Memorial messages can be recorded on the Newediuk Funeral Home, Kipling Chapel website. May Dieter rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him.
