Peacefully at Fairhaven Long-Term Care facility, Peterborough on December 26, 2022, at 87 years of age. Born September 21, 1935. Joyce was the devoted daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel Buttars. Predeceased by brothers Warren and Ralph. Sister-in-law of Mary Buttars. Lovingly remembered by nieces Coralee (Ken) Vass of Peterborough, Marion Soubliére of Ottawa, and Arlene Wherrett (Paul Gwilym) of Greenwich Park, Australia. Grand aunt of Darren (Sarah) Vass, Dominique Soubliére (Stephen Yu), Shannon (Caleb) Smith and Ryan Wherrett (Nadeen Madkour). Great grand aunt of Samuel Vass.
Joyce worked for 35 years as a bookkeeper at Mathews Conveyer Ltd., Port Hope. Joyce was also a devoted member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Port Hope. At St. Paul’s, she spent much time volunteering – making cookies and squares for Coffee Hour after church service and for, funeral lunches, and helping prepare meals to serve during the annual Port Hope House Tour. She loved to do many crafts and made sweaters, shawls, and toys for children. She was secretary for 23 years for the Women’s Missionary Service (WMS). She enjoyed travelling around Ontario to WMS Synodical meetings. Joyce was a devoted member for 60 years of the Port Hope Starlight chapter of the Eastern Star.
A funeral service will be held at Ross Funeral Chapel in Port Hope on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2022, at 2 p.m. Reverend Doctor Doug Brown officiating. Visitation 1 hour prior to funeral service.
A reception will be held immediately after the service.
A private family internment will be held at St. Paul United Church in Cold Springs at a later date.

Thank you to the dedicated healthcare staff at Westview 4, Fairhaven Long Term Care, Peterborough, and to Dr. Bill Shannon for his excellent care. Joyce lived a full life, always giving generously of her time and efforts to help others first. She will be greatly missed.
