Patricia Lorraine Corbett (née Heaney) died peacefully December 14, 2022, in Sidney, BC. She was born April 11, 1939, in Stone, Staffordshire, England.
Patricia was predeceased by Joe, her beloved husband of 41 years in 2000, and by her daughter, Cheryl Rebecca, in 1978. She is survived by two sisters, Lorraine (John) and Glenda (Rick) and two brothers, Paul (Mary) and Bob (Judy), many nieces and nephews, and a half-brother, Martyn Heaney.
Patricia immigrated to Canada from England with her mother Ruby, her stepfather Cyril, and two half-brothers, aboard the Empress of France, when she was 12 years old.
They settled in Simcoe County on Georgian Bay, in Ontario.
Following a severe case of tuberculosis as a teenager, Patricia began working at Cyril’s clothing factory, Larkin & Sons, in Port McNicoll.
In 1959, Patricia married the love of her life, Joe Corbett, a young local farmer. Two years later, their daughter Cheryl was born. Patricia and Joe ran a horse-riding stable – a source of much joy for the family. They later had a cattle farm in Wyebridge, Ontario.
Patricia and her family relocated to British Columbia in 1974 first to Creston, then eventually settling in Prince George.
Patricia had many animals she adored, most notably a pony named Little Joe that Patricia would drive around in the backseat of her car.
Nieces and nephews have fond memories of visiting “Auntie Pat and Uncle Joe.”
In 1992, Patricia and Joe retired to Lake Cowichan, where they were joined by Ruby and Cyril, as neighbours. Following Joe’s death, Patricia settled in Sidney, near to her mother Ruby, who she visited often and cared for.
The family wishes to thank Michelle, Glenda, Paul and Mary, and Lorraine for their active roles in caring for Patricia in her last years, as well as the staff at Sidney All Care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BCSPCA.
