With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Glenys New, after a long battle with lung disease. Glenys was born in 1938 in Prince Rupert, BC to David and Mary Owens, the youngest child with older brothers Andy and David. She met the love of her life Norman New and they were married in Prince Rupert in 1956. They had their first 3 children there (Warren, Kevin, Cheryl) and in 1960 moved to Castlegar (Kinnaird) when Norm started work at the new pulp mill where their youngest child Teena was born.
Glenys loved to spend time with her family and many friends. Her generous spirit, joyful personality and passion for life was infectious.
Glenys was very active in a lot of things throughout her life, the library, Sunday school, hockey mom, girls softball coach, bowling, golfing, square dancing, bingo amongst many other things. She spent several years working at the Castlegar School district office. She was the first person you saw when you went in the door always greeting everyone with a smile.
After retiring Norman and Glenys became snow birds enjoying life down south in Yuma, Arizona, making many more friends. Glenys loved her role as Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother spending as much time as possible with her many grandchildren and friends.
Glenys was pre deceased by her parents (David and Mary), her siblings David and Andy, and her granddaughter Jacquline.
Glenys was survived by her loving husband Norman, children Warren, Kevin (Joanne), Cheryl, Teena (Doug), grandchildren Russell (Brandy), James, Candis, Mechelle (Galen), Karleigh (Tanner), Wheeler, Axel and Nathan. Great grandchildren Rozzilyn, Jaxxon, Asher, Everleigh, Alden, Annie and Andrea, along with many nieces and nephews.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in late Spring/Summer 2023. Kole Roth of Alternatives Funeral Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Canadian Lung Association. She will be dearly missed by all ❤️
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Glenys May New December 12th 2022 and hope that their memory may be a source of comfort during this difficult time. Your thoughts and kind words are greatly appreciated.
