Obituary
It is with heartfelt sadness that our family announces the passing of Gerald Roy Swenson (Ollie Bear) at the age of 74 on Sunday, December 11, 2022 due to complications with cancer. Ollie was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan on June 16, 1948 and migrated to Lumby, BC in 1955. Ollie began his logging career right out of high school and worked for Bell Pole and as an independent operator. Later in his career, he hauled on the ice roads and appeared on the second season of Ice Road Truckers. Once he retired, he enjoyed visiting family and friends and could be seen often having “coffee with the boys” at Tim Horton’s in Revelstoke and A&W in Vernon. He was the kind of guy that was loved by ALL that knew him. A rock for his family and always supportive of those around him. “Bear” was welcomed into the homes of many friends when he did “his rounds” while visiting.
Ollie is survived by his children Dawn and Rick, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his sisters Val and Janice. Ollie was predeceased by his father Glen Swenson and mother, Vera Swenson. He also leaves behind countless friends and lifelong friend Paul Deuling.
There will be no service due to Ollie’s wishes however there will be an informal gathering in the spring/early summer.
