Obituary of Gloria Joan Davidson
July 11, 1938 – Edmonton, Alberta
December 10, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Gloria Davidson (nee Halwa), beloved wife of Larry Davidson, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the age of 84 years.
Gloria was born on July 11, 1938 and grew up in the Devon area on the Halwa family farm. She was the youngest of four daughters to Victoria and John S. Halwa.
She met the love of her life, Larry Davidson in 1960 while working as the secretary to the Town Manager in Devon. They were married April 15, 1961. As a young couple they lived in Red Water, Drayton Valley, and Black Diamond, finally settling in Calgary in 1965.
Gloria was an amazing cook and baker, even co-authoring a cookbook “Putter in the Kitchen” which contains many family favorites. In addition, she was an absolute force to be reckoned with on the golf course. She and Larry spent many winters in Scottsdale and summer weekends with friends and family out at the cabin in BC – always the consummate hostess. Her love of travel took her to Asia, Europe, Mexico, the Mediterranean and throughout the US. In 2011 she and Larry spent their 50th wedding anniversary in New York City.
Gloria was an extremely caring and involved Grandma. Her dedication and enthusiasm when it came to anything her granddaughters were involved with, was second to none. Attending school concerts, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and more softball games than you could count. She and Larry travelled around the city, province, and country just to watch the girls’ games. Back to school clothes shopping with Hayley and Taylor was a tradition that began in kindergarten and was something they all looked forward to every August.
Besides her loving husband Larry Davidson, Gloria is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Vicky Davidson and Michael Jones of Canmore, AB and Jackie Jackson of Calgary, AB; grandchildren Hayley and Taylor Jackson; her sister Lorna Pasemco; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Victoria and John S. Halwa, her sisters and brothers-in-law Isabel and Gerald Gorman, and Adeline and Stan Goddard, and her brother-in-law Fred Pasemco.
