Albert, Annette Rosalie (Scharfstein)
Annette Rosalie (Scharfstein) Albert passed away from cancer on Saturday, December 10, 2022 (16 Kislev 5783) at the age of 83. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sam Albert.
Born to Ethel and Bert Scharfstein, Annette grew up in Winnipeg where she married Sam. They moved to Ottawa in 1971. Annette taught at M. F. McHugh School for many years, where she made a huge impact on the lives of children with emotional needs. She remained close friends with colleagues from McHugh until her passing. Annette was an active member of Kehillat Beth Israel where she regularly attended morning minyan, as well as a number of service organizations including Hadassah-WIZO and Na’amat. She also served on the Hillel Lodge Auxilliary until shortly before her passing.
Annette was a force of energy. She swam regularly for most of her life, and took energetic walks every day even well into her illness. She was an avid reader, and participated in a book club for over 40 years. She loved playing bridge at home and in Florida, travelling to visit her grandchildren or exploring the world, including many cruises. Annette was a gracious hostess, whose home was constantly filled with friends enjoying her chicken soup, cheese cake, and banana torte.
Annette is survived by her children, Michelle (Howard Burke), Sharon (Mark Stein), David (Jennifer Tater), and Ilana (Mitchell Novick); her grandchildren Melody, Louis (Jessica) and Sam Burke, Isaiah and Elijah Albert-Stein, Justine, Julia and Sam Albert, and Daniel, Benjamin, Matthew and Sarah Novick; her sisters Beverley Gorenstein and Deborah Avren; her brother Brian Scharfstein; her special friend Lewis Perelmutter, and a multitude of close relatives and friends.
