Obituary
It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of William P. Costello, lovingly known as Bill Harvey, of Conception Harbour, aged 64 years. Surrounded by his family, Bill departed to begin his next journey on December 9, 2022.
Bill embodied a consistent and strong work ethic paired with a steadfast determination throughout his 64 years. He worked in the construction industry and was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 764 for 46 years. Even in retirement, Bill was eager to help family and friends with various jobs, balancing this with relaxing in the backyard over a cold Black Horse. He was our very own handy-man and could turn his hand at pretty much anything he put his mind to. More importantly, though, was Bill’s ability to easily befriend those who crossed his path. As a master of hospitality, he enjoyed opening his home, kitchen, and a few cold ones with all he knew. Bill’s unwavering loyalty and support for those he loved will forever be cherished.
Waiting for him on the other side with a cold Black Horse and warm embrace are his parents, Margaret (Peg) and William (Bill) Costello, his father-in-law, William (Bill) Flynn, as well as his grandparents, family members and friends who have gone before him.
Left behind to cherish and celebrate his life are his “three girls” – wife of 39 years, Betty Ann, and two daughters, Leslie-Anne (Scott) and Shannon (Byron); three precious grandchildren, Olivia, Lennox, and Mallory; brother Ken (Eleanor); sisters Denise Lewis (Fred), Debbie Cole (Bill), and Annette Hillier (Albert); mother-in-law, Martina Flynn; sisters-in-law, Sharon Oulton (Ray) and Rhea Lundrigan (Rodney); and life-long best friend, Jack Conway (Janice). Bill also has a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends who will fondly remember him.
We would like to put forth a special thank you to Dr. Melanie Seal, her oncology team, and the nursing staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic for their care and compassion during the last 6 years. Our gratitude is also extended to Dr. Cheryl Hurley and Community Health Nurse, Kim Buckle-Whiteway for their gentle kindness and support.
At Bill’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Dunphy’s Funeral Home in Holyrood on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a celebration of his life to follow on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 11:00 from Assumption Parish Roman Catholic Church in Avondale. Inurnment will take place at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Conception Harbour, at a later date.
Bill loved flowers. Flowers or a donation in Bill’s memory to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, or a charity of one’s choosing, are graciously accepted.
Bill’s jovial laugh and smiling eyes are forever embedded into our hearts. Please visit www.dunphys.ca to sign the memorial guest book or to leave a message of condolence.
