John Hansen 2022

Obituary for
John Hansen
It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of John Hansen.
John Christian Hansen passed away peacefully at his home on December 2, 2022. He was born on May 25, 1948 in Mayerthorpe to parents Agnes and Earl Hansen. After the passing of his father, Earl, “Johnny” moved to the farm with his brother and stepsiblings where he lived and worked on the farm for 16 years. Johnny attended Sangudo School until grade 10 and decided that the trucking life was for him.
John met Lynne at school, where Lynne decided that John was the one and wanted to get married but had to wait until she graduated school and turn 18. They started their married life together in Sangudo on October 18, 1969. John had just started his own trucking business, JC Hansen Transport, the previous year hauling water and gravel all over Alberta. But, Sangudo would remain home to them. They started their family in 1971, their first child Earl John. Following, like clockwork, every 2 years, their family expanded with the birth of Mark, Chad and Amber.
Family was very important to John and Lynne, they always welcomed other kids into their home as either friends of their children or exchange students. John was an affectionate and fun loving father to his kids. He was actively involved in many sports in Sangudo, was always coaching or watching at the hockey rink or ballfield.
Johnny was an incredibly hard worker and trucked until 2010. JC Hansen Transport worked around the Sangudo area, but also trucked all over Alberta and made many friends who became like family.
When John retired from trucking, he wanted to spend his time with his many grandchildren, watching and supporting their many activities. They drove all over Alberta, British Columbia and into the United States cheering them on.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Lynne; sons, Earl (Mary), Mark (Kelle), and Chad; grandchildren, Colton, Bailey, Courtney, Bri-anne, Haley, Corbyn, Hunter, and Madelynne; great-grandchildren, Shae, RyanAnne, Olivia and Adriaan; sister, Iris; and brothers, Howard, Robert (Sandy), and Fraser. Predeceased by his daughter, Amber in 2016; parents, Agnes and Earl; brothers, Dale, Hugh, Bill, and Roy; sister, Gail; finally, Allen, his step-father.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 6 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Funeral Home in Mayerthorpe,
Funeral Service Wednesday, December 7 at 12:00 p.m. at the Sangudo Community Hall. Interment to follow in South Park Cemetery. All are welcome to celebrate the life of John Hansen. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Parkinson Association of Alberta in John Hansen’s name. Donations can be mailed to 120, 6835 Railway Street SE, Calgary, AB T2H-2V6 or www.parkinsonassociation.ca.
