Doug MacLeod 2022

Doug MacLeod
Our Dad, Douglas Oscar MacLeod “Doug”,
passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a sudden cardiac
arrest on Friday, December 2nd, 2022. He was a son of the late
Reginald and Ellen MacLeod of Abercrombie. Doug grew up in Abercrombie
where he lived and served his community his entire life, from teaching
Sunday School to square dancing, volunteering at the Community Center
and his biggest accomplishment that he was so proud of was his
custodian work at the Abercrombie Cemetery which is one of the envies
of the county. Doug’s work ethnic was well known from his
beginnings as a bread driver for Eastern Bakeries to his time as a
mechanic at Danny Stewart’s garage in Westville, later
moving into the retail business where he worked for Sobeys for over 20
years. Doug then tried his hand at entrepreneurship opening his own
business, “Macleod’s Lawn and Garden
Care”, where his passion for gardening was evident. After
that, he went back to retail at the Super Store where he spent another
20 years before retiring. Doug was a hard worker but always made time
to develop friendships which he carried on for years. A special thank
you to Mike and Matt for the friendship they shared with our dad. He
loved country music and dancing and when Doug and Marilyn took the
floor they were the spotlight and a joy to watch. Doug also loved to
spend time working in his garage on his lawn equipment and tinkering
with crafts. His work ethic was evident with everything he did. Doug
passed this trait on to all his children.
Doug is survived by son, Paul (Cindy) MacLeod, Plymouth;
daughter, Denise (Allan) Avery, Hazel Glen; and son, Wayne (Sarah)
MacLeod, Ottawa; his grandchildren, Alyssa (Nick) Munro, Hayley
(Dylan) Beaton, Nicole (Conor) McCarthy, Rochelle (Luke) Langille,
Renee (Eric) Rector, Tara (Ben) McDonald, Dylan MacLeod, and Aaron

Beaton, Feile McCarthy, Noah and Olivia Rector and Evan McDonald. He
is also survived by brothers, Reg (Sharon) MacLeod, Roger MacLeod;

nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his
wife, Marilyn (MacKenzie); brother, Robert; sisters, Mabel (Hayden)
and Barb (Webster); and brother-in-law, Tom
Hayden.
