It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Poirier. She is predeceased by her husband George Poirier of 66 wonderful years. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Bob (Deirdre), daughter Louise (Jim Abriel), son Bill (Gina), five grandchildren Tyler, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Danica, Lauren, two great grandchildren Aria, Logan and numerous relatives and friends.
Laura was born in St. Amilie, Manitoba and moved to Maillardville, B.C. in 1936 at the age of two. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes School and Como Lake High in Coquitlam where she graduated grade 13 in 1950. She started working at St. Mary’s Hospital, New Westminster at the age of 14 with her sisters in various departments. Once she had graduated, she worked as a teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes and then was hired as the Operating Room Booking Clerk at St. Mary’s Hospital where she was employed for many years. She enjoyed work with all it’s challenges and was able to provide a wonderful, fun filled life full of adventure with her husband and three kids. Never a dull moment!
Together, Laura and George built many homes in Coquitlam where everyone was welcome. They also built a summer home on the Sunshine Coast. She took great pride in her summer home on North Lake where she gardened for hours, entertained endlessly, always sharing a glass of wine or two. She enjoyed being on the water in Egmont where she caught and canned many salmon.
Her happy place was Hawaii. She began vacationing in the Hawaiian Islands in 1969 and eventually would spend one to two months a year living “Aloha”. Her favourite was Waikiki where the action was.
After retiring in the late 1980’s, Laura and George travelled from coast to coast in Canada and the United States. They also explored Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, Morocco and France.
She instilled great work ethics in her children and always was supportive in anything they did. Her grandchildren meant the world to her. She cooked many family dinners and played canasta for endless hours with the grandkids.
Her infectious laugh, kind heart, warm smile and loving hugs will be missed.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 11:00am with a Christian burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 315 Walker Street, Coquitlam.

sorry to hear about Auntie Laura. It is hard to believe that she was the last of that generation in our family.
We are thinking of you, remembering childhood memories and visits at the lake.
