Passed away peacefully at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 26, 2022, Garry Cassidy of Chesterville, age 83. Beloved husband of Cheryl Harper- Cassidy (nee Fyke) and the late Mary Cassidy (nee Williams). Dear stepfather of Kim Harper (Jamie Levere) of Chesterville and Jon Harper (Nicole Eyre-Worden) of Prescott. Dear brother of Mel Cassidy (June) of Prescott, Alton Cassidy (Shirley) of Lucan and Sandra Jennings (late Glendon) of Inkerman. Garry will be fondly remembered by his grandson Logan Harper (Brianna Rust). He was predeceased by his parents James and Lulu Cassidy (nee McIntosh) and his infant sister Leona Cassidy. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Garry joined the Canadian Army on August 23, 1960 and was honorably discharged on September 29, 1963. He graduated from Algonquin College in Ottawa and drove bus for the Toronto Transit Commission for 33 years until his retirement in 2000. While living in Toronto Garry earned his certification as both a private and commercial pilot. In his leisure time he enjoyed, camping, golfing and curling.
Funeral Arrangements
A Celebration of Garry’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Chesterville on Saturday, December 10th from 1-4 p.m. Interment of cremated remains will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Chesterville. Donations to the Dundas County Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Online condolences may be made at marsdenmclaughlin.com.
