We are truly saddened to announce the passing of our husband, father, papa, and great papa, Walter Trentini at Vernon Jubilee Hospital surrounded by family on Sunday, November 20, 2022 in his 90th year. Walt was born and raised in Lethbridge Alberta where he fell in love with the sport of hockey. From an early age he pursued his passion with the hope of playing hockey professionally. His love of hockey combined with his tenacious work ethic, eventually led to him being drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks. Walt eventually played professional with the Calgary Stampeders in the Western Hockey League and the Omaha Knights of the International Hockey League. Walt’s career highlight, was being a member of the Vernon Canadians Hockey Club, winning the Allan Cup in 1956 where many of his treasured memories and life-long friendships were created. Following his hockey career, Walt became a coach and mentor to many young minor hockey players, coaching teams of all age groups, sharing his love for the game, and giving back to the Vernon community. In later life, Walt was an avid golfer, world traveler, and a great card player. He excelled at being a Papa, and great Papa to his grand and great grandchildren but more importantly he was an amazing role model for our entire family. A family friend once said that there are givers and takers in life, and Walt gave way more than he ever took, content to sit in the background and point the spotlight at loved ones instead of himself. Walt is survived by his wife Marie, children Cindy (John), Rod (Marie), four grandchildren, Jennifer, Brittany, Spencer, Calen (Jamie predeceased), and nine great grandchildren all who will miss him dearly. Thank you to Dr. Waldron for his years of care and to all the Doctors and nurses who cared for dad during his final days. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
