It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joe Masuda of Chatham, who passed away on Monday November 28th, 2022, at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his parent Ryohei and Sumi Masuda and siblings Hidi Masuda, Yas Masuda (the late Lucy), Fred Masuda and Tosh Obara (the late Casey). He will be dearly missed by his sisters Miyo Hamasaki (the late Mas), Betty Nishiyama (the late Ken), Nancy Morino (the late Herb), and Christina Kikuta (Herb), and close family friends Shirley Takahashi (the late Ted) and Florences Takahashi. He was an adoring uncle to his nieces and nephews from both Masuda’s and Takahashi’s.
Joe was born in Fanny Bay, British Columbia on January 7th, 1937. After the family survived the BC Internment Camp, his family settled in Chatham. His long career at Union Gas ended with a well-deserved retirement. This left more time for golfing, golfing trips with his friends and brother-in-law. His enjoyment of Poker nights with his friends, evolved into playing cards and Rummy-cube with family. Of course, his true high light of the week was going to “the farm” for weekend family dinners from chefs Florence and Shirley.
On behalf of the Masuda family, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to both Florence and Shirley for their generosity and kindness in looking after Joe. We want to extend our deep appreciation to Riverview Gardens Long Term Care, and the many nurses and PSW’s, who cared for Joe. Also, thank you to Dan Houle of the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home for his support through our difficult time.
Joe’s funeral service will be conducted from the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington St. West, Chatham, on Friday December 2nd, 2022 at 1 pm with Pastor Greg Simpson officiating. Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider Riverview Gardens Long Term Care or a charity of your choice.
