On November 21, 2022 at C.E.E. Hospital of Bluewater Health, Petrolia, Andrew “Andy” Kovacs passed peacefully at the age of 88. Beloved husband to the late Edith (2019) for 64 years. Loving father to Ann and Victor Henderson, Ken and Cathy Kovacs, and Debbie Kovacs. Proud grandpa to Brad and Gillian Henderson, David Henderson (Caroline Taylor), Sarah and Matthew Dudley, Megan and Gunhild Ramsay-Kovacs, Jessica and Terry Posthumus, and Jared Kovacs. Devoted great grandfather to Madailynne, Oliver, Charlotte, Archer, Jakob, Alexis, Hauk, Elinor, Karissa, Michael, Lara, Jayme, Elissa, Catherine, and Bella. Loved brother to Evelyn (the late Don) Godden, Ann (the late Jack) Mawby, Philip (Barb) Kovacs and brother-in-law to Margaret Kovacs. Predeceased by his parents Andy and Ann Kovacs and his brother Alfred. Andy will be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Andy was a dedicated, hard worker. He wore many hats when his kids were young so he could provide his family with all they needed and wanted. That’s how he showed his love. Andy was employed by CN rail for 40 years and at one point he also owned and operated Andy’s Restaurant (20 years), was a custodian for Holy Rosary School, ran an Apparel clothing store with his wife and was the bookkeeper for a local insurance company. On his “non-busy nights” he slung beer at the Roche Hotel in Watford. At age 67, he went and bought himself a Dually diesel pick-up truck and delivered camper trailers all around North America, because he needed to keep his hands busy.
The family would like to thank C.E.E. Hospital Petrolia, Bluewater Health, Sarnia, their Doctors, Nurses, caregivers, and staff for their exemplary care of Andy. They have shown compassionate care toward him and his family for over 65 years. A graveside service for both Andy and Edith will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday November 26, 2022. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the C.E.E. Hospital Foundation (www.ceehf.ca). Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.needhamjay.com
***Please note that the CN Railroad crossing will be closed on Oil Heritage road all day Saturday. Please take alternative route to cemetery if coming from north side. Please allow for extra time and follow the detour***
