With sad hearts we announce Ruth’s peaceful passing at Kingston Health Science Centre on November 26th, surrounded by family.
Ruth was born in Gananoque, the daughter of Mildred and Willis Gray. Beloved wife of the late Stanley Hughes (2010) and loving mother to her late son Craig Simons (2020). Ruth was predeceased by her siblings Evelyn Ferguson, Paul Gray and Charlie Gray. Ruth will be greatly missed by her daughter-in-law-Karen Baars (Netherlands), her sister-in-law Ann Gray, her nieces Patty Jansen and Martha McCarney and their families and her nephews Kevin and Darryl Gray. She is also survived by her step-children Diane, Brenda and Stanley and their extended families.
Ruth left Gananoque and lived in the Toronto area for most of her life. Following the death of her son, Ruth returned to Gananoque to be closer to family. She enjoyed the last two years living at Fox Run By the River Retirement Residence where she was able to get reacquainted with old friends, meet new people and spend time with her family.
As per Ruth’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Tompkins Funeral Home on Friday December 2nd at 10:30 am. The service will be live streamed through the Tompkins Funeral Home Face Book page. Burial will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank Heather and the staff at Fox Run by the River for providing Ruth with a wonderful home and care over the past two years; Nurse Practitioner Jennifer Revelle (St Lawrence Medical Clinic); the staff at Kingston Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department and Connell 10. Special thanks to Dr Zijing Wu for his compassionate care and kindness during this difficult time. Special mention to Medical student Eric Meng.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the University Hospital Kingston Foundation in Ruth’s name would be appreciated by the family. Thank you to David and Tompkins Funeral Home for their care and support as always.
