April 21, 1930 – November 15, 2022
At the age of 92, Kathy passed away peacefully in Armstrong, BC with her family by her side.
Kathy was born in Vancouver to Collingwood and Lorna Schreiber and had 2 sisters, Lorna-B and Carol. The family lived in Tatalrose, BC on their large and remote ranch that bordered Francois and Isaac (Schreiber) Lakes. When Kathy was 13, the family moved to a farm in Langley. After graduating high school, Kathy began working as a bank teller and during these years had many fun, and sometimes wild adventures with her childhood friend Dixie. It was also during this time that Kathy met her future husband, Gordon Recksiedler, at a local community dance; they were married for a long and happy 53 years.
After they married, Gordy and Kathy moved to Chilliwack where they started their family and made many lifelong friends including the Christie, Grainger and White families. They eventually moved their family to Coquitlam and lived there for 37 years before retiring to the Okanagan, first to Canoe and then to Armstrong.
Kathy was a lifelong homemaker and always very active in her community. She volunteered for numerous organizations over her lifetime, including working with mentally and physically disabled children and young adults, the Vancouver Aquarium, and Meals-on-Wheels to name a few.
Kathy had many interests; taking courses, travelling, was a talented oil painter, cook, bowler, amateur sports fan, gardener, and she loved animals and music of all kinds. She had a great sense of humor, was quick to laugh and loved the occasional gin and tonic. In later years she enjoyed going for country drives and loved discussing politics and current affairs. Above all else, Kathy had a deep connection with children and was a beloved role model for not only her own children and grandchildren, but all the lives she touched; she was kind, easy to talk to, and her door was always open to everyone. She will be fondly remembered and missed by all.
Kathy was predeceased by her mother and father, husband Gordy, sister Lorna-B, sister-in-law Gertie, brothers-in-law Duncan, George, Bill and Howie, as well by close friends Edith and Edythe.
Kathy is survived by children; Paul, Mark (Sue), Tracy (Bruce), and Susan, grandchildren; Travis, Gage, Allison, Gordon, Quin and Riley, sister Carol, sister-in-law Linda, her beloved nieces and nephews; Sharon, Janice, Duncan, Douglas, Shelagh, Steven, Brock, Elaine, Craig, Gail and Gary, numerous extended family members, and special friends, Rob and Betty.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Pleasant Valley Manor for their wonderful care of Kathy these last few years. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to your favorite charity.
You were our sunshine too Mom.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Katherine Mary Recksiedler nee Schreiber November 15th 2022..
