Obituary
Jerry Lee Joseph Menard unexpectedly passed away on November 18, 2022 at the age of 50.
Jerry was born on February 26, 1972 in Swan River, MB to Dorine Thompson and Lloyd Menard. He was their first son and the first grandson to Jim and Clemence Thompson. He was raised in Camperville, Winnipeg and Duck River, MB along with his four siblings. He attended school in Winnipeg and Winnipegosis, MB.
He began his love of hockey at age 4. His Dad and his Uncle Henry took him out to the outdoor rinks in the North End countless times and taught him how to skate and stick handle. He played with the Sir John Franklin Explorers hockey team and became one of the first picks for the Assiniboine Park Rangers hockey team. Jerry was one of their fastest skaters.
Jerry spent summers with Ma and Pa, his grandparents, and his aunts, uncles and cousins. They would go camping and berry picking and he started to learn how to work the horses with Pa. Pa also showed him how to trap and hunt.
As a teenager, Jerry loved music and saw a lot of heavy metal and rock band concerts in Winnipeg before moving to Duck River, MB. Uncle Danny taught him further about horses and farming and helped him buy his first car. His music taste switched more to country at that time. He worked on cars and learned mechanics with his Dad, his brother-in-law Derek and brother Bill.
Jerry had four children, Preston, Simone, Jerry, Kayla, and stepson, Clint. Throughout his adult life, he lived in Camperville, Duck Bay, Winnipeg and Dauphin, MB working at various jobs and would go hunting with his friends to help provide for his family.
Jerry loved to visit and socialize with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, solitaire or cribbage. Jerry loved seeing his grandchildren. He also made a point of spending time with his nieces and nephews by dropping in on them and giving them candies before he left or sharing his favorite orange pop and Eatmore bar.
Jerry was friendly and met a lot of people throughout his life; he was always willing to help others and lend a hand, if needed. He learned about his culture and smudged regularly.
