Obituary
It is with profound sadness we announce that George Redlich, age 83, passed away peacefully at Dr. Andrew Pavilion Extended Care Centre in Summerland BC on November 10th, 2022 with his family by his side.
George was born, along with twin brother, Henry (Hank), on August 13th, 1939, to Hermann and Susanna Redlich in Kelowna, BC. He grew up in Kelowna, enjoying times with his siblings and friends playing hockey on what is now known as Redlich’s Pond. After graduating from Kelowna High School, George moved to Alberta for work. It was during his time working in southern Alberta, that he met his future bride, Glenna. They married on July 1st, 1962.
George began his career in municipal work that same year when he took a position with the County of Red Deer. He took correspondence courses through the University of Alberta for the next three years. In 1967, George and Glenna celebrated the arrival of their first daughter, Robynn. Soon after, they moved to a small town in central Alberta, built their first home and George was offered the position of Town Manager. They welcomed their second daughter, Crystal. During his time in Alberta, George participated in the Alberta Summer Games and many community sports teams. In 1976, George returned to the sunny Okanagan, where he accepted the position of Municipal Clerk for the town of Summerland, BC and moved his family. Shortly thereafter, George and Glenna were thrilled with the arrival of their third daughter, Lindsey. George was eventually promoted to Municipal Administrator for Summerland until his retirement in 2003. After his retirement, he kept busy enjoying time with his family, playing both senior hockey and slo-pitch, golfing, spending time at the beach and riding his motorcycle. Redlich was an avid sports enthusiast all his life. He combined his passion for sports and community by coaching girls fastball and organizing several local hockey tournaments attended by teams from BC and Alberta. In addition, he was instrumental in bringing the Summerland Buckaroos, BC JHL team, to Summerland.
George is survived by his three daughters, Robynn Robertson (spouse Jamie, daughters Kyra & Alexa) of Kelowna, Crystal Redlich of Vancouver, and Lindsey Denton (spouse Craig, daughter Paige) of Penticton. He also leaves behind brothers Albert Redlich, William Redlich (spouse Jan), Henry Redlich (spouse Linda) and sister Agnes Stuerle (spouse Hugo) all of Kelowna, and sister Edie Hagen (partner Glen) of Burnaby, sister-in-law Lillian Redlich of Kelowna and brother-in-law Francis Blackman of Valemont, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Sadly, George was predeceased by his spouse, Glenna, in May 2020. He was also predeceased by his parents Hermann and Susanna, brother Jerry Redlich, sisters Lil Blackman, Ruth Welder and Ellie Giesbrecht and sister-in-law Tina Redlich, brother-in-laws Fred Heffke and Abe Giesbrecht.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff at Dr. Andrew Pavilion in Summerland for their compassion and care of George over the past several years as well as Dr. Dahl and her staff. Special thanks to George’s physiotherapist for many years, Sue Barnes, and his speech therapist, Arianne Crossley.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Summerland in July 2023 (George’s favourite time of the year!) Details will be available on the Providence website once confirmed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George’s name to KidSport BC.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of George Redlich August 13 1939 November 10 2022 (age 83)..
