Obituary
Mrs. Donna Jean Doyle of Westerose, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Ponoka Hospital & Care Center on Saturday, October 29,2022 at the age of 78 years.
Donna will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Graham Stuart (Peta) Townend of Springwood, Queensland, Australia; her daughter Sandy Jean (Chuck) McCook of Ponoka, Alberta; three grandchildren Ashley Danielle (Peter) Feldberg, Randi Caitlin (Clint Swales) McCook, and Daniel Rowen Townend; as well as three great-grandchildren Everett and Ellis and Ruari Feldberg; her sister Nicola (Andrew) Townend & family of Grimsby, England. Also, her extended family in Calgary, Auntie Jess Wallace, numerous cousins, extended family in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, the Doyle family, close family friends Dennis & Sue Gordon of Barrier, British Columbia, as well as her friends & neighbors at the Village.
Donna was predeceased by her father Walter Townend (England) and her mother Jean Rowley of Winfield, Alberta, her first husband John Edward (Jack) Doyle in 1985, and her second husband Sidney (Sid) Gordon in 2006.
Donna was raised and educated in England & Germany. Upon returning to Canada she began her career in data entry/payroll with Sunlife of Canada in Calgary which led her to then move to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories where she worked for the Territorial Government and finally to Echo Bay Mines, Lupin, Northwest Territories from where she would retire.
Donna thoroughly enjoyed watching the tennis & curling greats on TV & would take advantage of her time by creating all the sweaters & socks we could all wear. Her knitting was impeccable. She enjoyed travelling, especially to Australia & England to visit her family, researching ancestry & the family tree, a good glass of wine or a margarita with friends and all things “Royal”. She was always glad to be asked to judge the 4-H speeches & did so at the various levels, taking much interest in what the youth had to say about varied topics. If you knew her at all, you knew that Christmas and especially Christmas stockings were her “thing”. Nobody found treasures for stocking stuffers like Donna did. Most of all, she loved to hear from & know what the kids were doing. Where they’d been, what they’d seen. She also cherished her “community” at her home in The Village at Pigeon Lake. Close knit with most amenities close by, it provided her with the chance to make close friends, enjoy a walk to the grocery store & a stop at “Daisy McBean’s” on the way home for a warm bowl of soup & a visit with the gals.
A public Memorial in honor of Donna’s life will be held on November 15, 2022 at the Lakedell Hall from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. where you are welcome to drop in to pay your respects. A light lunch will be provided.
Cremation took place at Wombold’s Wetaskiwin Funeral Home & Crematorium.
