Obituary
Carmelita Aparecida Morelo Reis, 89 years old, was born in Barretos, Brazil. She lived at 40 Brendwin Road, Toronto, with Nadya, her daughter, and Christina, her daughter-in-law, for 21 years. She was truly loved by them. She resided at Eatonville Care Centre for almost 2 months. It was a short stay filled with care, kindness, and compassion. It was there that she made her transition peacefully, while sleeping, on January 17th of 2022.
Her father, Guido Morelo, and mother, Mariana Pires Morelo, were born in Brazil. Nery Reis was her late husband. She loved her late brother Guimar Reis very much. She was known to protect him when they were very young whenever he would get into trouble with other kids at school. She had a very strong bond with her cousin Wilma up to the end. She lived in Itanhaem, Brazil, for more than 30 years. She loved the town, the forest around her house and the views of the sea. During her time there, she made friends for life like late Dorinha, Marlene, late Lourdes, Sr. Zequinha, Creusa, Carmem, Fernanda, and Karine, to cite a few. She made friends here too like Olivia, Maria, Selma, Oscar and Andrea, Sangdrub and Lochani. She loved her dogs and cats. She considered them her friends. She is survived by her dog Tenzin, a 14 years old maltese.
She spoke Portuguese and was fluent in French. She learned English here when she moved to Canada. Being more than 60 years old, she was very proud of going to school to learn English.
She knitted extremely well, creating designs for scarves and hats. She had the mind of an engineer trying to find practical solutions for everything. She made pottery, necklaces, and crochet pieces too. She gave a piece of her heart to everyone that received one of her pieces, being them made of beads, clay, or yarns. Her cooking skills were above the chart. Bread and pizza dough, soups, whole meals, were all done without recipes, just by feeling. They were very tasteful and good!
She loved French music, fishing and to travel. She loved reading Danielle Steel and read more than 100 of her books. She enjoyed reading biographies as well.
She loved her daughter Nadya very much. She was very proud of her and of being her mother.
We would like to thank her wonderful family doctor J. Kennedy and the kind staff at White’s Medical Centre for always taking good care of her. Many thanks to the people at White’s Pharmacy for their very efficient and caring work. Our gratitude to Local Health Integration Network for their amazing work in finding solutions and help for families with sick loved ones that are overwhelmed and haven’t even realized it. Without people like Tina Hang (care coordinator) and companies coordinated with LHIN, like CarePartners and their wonderful PSWs, life would be very difficult. We are grateful to Toronto paramedics and Telehealth Ontario too. Our thankfulness to the professionals at Eatonville Care Centre for going over and beyond in trying to make her life comfortable, healthy and without pain. She only spoke Portuguese at the end due to her illness, but they were able to communicate with her in very creative ways and with lots of kindness and care. Our thanks to Dr. Kumar at CAMH too.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Carmelita Aparecida Morelo Reis July 25 1932 January 17 2022 (age 89)..
