It’s with great sadness that the family of Zoila Blasutti (nee Cantarutti) announces her passing on Thursday October 26, 2022, at the age of 92 (just shy of her 93rd birthday). She died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Through thick and thin her daughter Marilyn (Clarini) was a constant source of unfailing support and comfort to her mother.
Zoila was born in Rodeano in Friuli, Italy on November 2nd, 1929, to Ermes and Maria Cantarutti. She immigrated to Canada in November 1951 to marry the love of her life, Ferdinando Blasutti (Nando – d. 1999) leaving behind her parents and her beloved brother Dino. Beginning a life together in Sudbury was difficult at times but they were sustained by the love and support of Nando’s extended family, Zia Assunta, and Zio Pietro Blasutti, who took them in like their own, gave them the confidence and guidance to begin a new life in Sudbury.
Nando and Zoila were blessed with three children Daniel – d. 1995 – (Jude), Robert (Deborah) and Marilyn (Claudio). They are survived by grandchildren Dennis (Jennifer), Michael (Samantha), Angela (Patrick), Nadia (Michael), Stephen (Rosie), Daniel and Aidan. Zoila was beloved Bisnonna to Alida, Sandro, Alexandra, Dominic, Anthony, Felix, and Maia. Nando and Zoila always put family and friends first and were a shining example of a marriage filled with love and devotion to each other and to their family. Zoila enjoyed life and we’ll all miss her infectious laugh, her kind heart, and her amazing cooking. “O ce Bon” (Oh SO good!) describes Zoila’s love of cooking and her zest for life.
Thank you to the staff at the Southwind retirement residence who provided a caring and loving environment for Zoila for seven years. Her final months were spent at Extendicare York with many dedicated staff who called her “Bella” or “Nonna”. A very special thank you to the two Theresa’s, PSWs who so kindly looked after Mom’s needs.
Zoila will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She’ll be in our hearts forever.
