Murray passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022. He was almost 88 years old.
Born to Margaret and David Bumstead in Meaford, Ontario, Murray grew up the middle of 14 children. Starting at an early age, Murray worked a variety of jobs. After a stint as a sailor on the Great Lakes, he moved west with a few of his siblings and found work mainly as a trucker in the Yukon, B.C. and Alberta. Eventually, Murray settled in Edmonton after marrying Ora Jean Harlton. Murray and Ora were together for 66 years and hardly ever spent time apart. Murray retired from CP Transport after 35 years on the road and over one million miles driven.
After his retirement, Murray and Ora moved to Armstrong, and then to Vernon, where they spent time gardening, renovating their homes and planning trips. They traveled across Canada, and to the Caribbean and Central America where they visited a number of tropical destinations. Murray and Ora loved spending time with their six grandchildren, and they particularly enjoyed attending their music recitals and concerts, swimming competitions, and hockey and baseball games over the years.
Murray had a quick sense of humour and was known for his one-liners. An avid reader who always had a western laying around, Murray was always up for a game of euchre or cribbage. Over the years, Murray and Ora held season tickets to the Vernon Vipers and Okotoks Oilers, rarely missing a home game.
Murray is predeceased by his loving wife, Ora. He will be dearly missed by his children, Lloyd (Jan), Neil (Kelly) and Donna (Brad), and his grandchildren Nolan, Connor, Sean, Clancy, Nikita, and Sydney.
Together again with Ora, he’s “so good he can hardly stand it.”
