Obituary of Martin Grunfelder
Martin Grunfelder
Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 25,2022, at the age of 92. Beloved husband of 66 years to Margaret, cherished Father to Randy (predeceased 1988) and Tammy (Brian), loving Opa to Jesse (Amy) and Danielle (Tyler) and treasured Poppy to Matilda and Charlotte. He was predeceased by his parents Antal and Anna Maria, and siblings John and Madelaine. He loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face. Martin will be greatly missed by many extended family members and friends, with whom he always had a story to share.
Martin was born in Baja Hungary and immigrated to Canada in 1952. For 30 years, Martin operated a grape farm while employed at General Motors, working tirelessly to provide for his family. Upon retirement Martin and Margaret took their adventures on the road; travelling to Arizona, Alaska, Florida, BC, and lots of places in between. In 1997, Martin returned to visit his childhood home, it was“a trip to remember”.
Martin’s family would like to thank the staff at UMH for the loving care during the last few years. “The mind may not remember but the heart will never forget”
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 1st at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines from 6-8pm. A Final Tribute for Martin will be held in the Ceremony Room of the funeral home on Wednesday, November 2nd at 11am. Donations made in Martin’s memory to the United Mennonite Home would be appreciated by his family.
