BERTOLLO, Bortolo Carlo
(Aug. 25, 1929 – Oct. 16, 2022) –
Passed away peacefully at Etobicoke General Hospital surrounded by family. Born in Resana, Treviso, Italy to parents Maria (nee Bettanello) and Pietro as one of eight children. Bortolo immigrated to Canada in 1952 and became one of the thousands of Italian Immigrant workers who helped build Toronto and its suburbs. In 1956 he married Luisa Carniel, and together they raised children Clara, Paola (John) and Pietro (Janet). During his retirement years, he watched his cherished grandchildren Steven (Amanda) and Erica grow up followed by great-grandchildren Amelie, Juliette and Jaxsun. A humble, kind and devoted family man, Bortolo enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as family get togethers, visiting friends, Sunday afternoon picnics and bocce at Centennial Park, Saturday evening card games with friends, tending his garden and backyard, riding his bicycle along the Humber River, singing in the St. Benedict’s Italian choir and attending events held by the Trevisani nel Mondo Toronto Chapter. Bortolo will be greatly missed by his wife, children, and family, and fondly remembered by many friends, nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. Resting at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue, Toronto (north of Rexdale Boulevard), on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Benedict Parish, 2194 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
