With heavy hearts, the family shares the news that Laurina F. Waldner, passed away peacefully at Oliver Lodge, on January 18, 2022. She was born to Frank and Elizabeth Kroeker of Langham, SK on December 28, 1928. In 1946, she married Andrew P. Waldner; they moved to Saskatoon in 1947, where she resided until passing.
As a busy and loving mother of five, Laurina supplemented the family income doing custom drapes and upholstery piecework for Eaton’s. She also knitted, crocheted, and sewed many projects, including beautiful wedding dresses for each her daughters and daughter-in-law. Once the responsibilities of family were reduced in 1976, she went to work as a warehouse clerk at Acklands. In August of 1987 Laurina retired to care for Andy, who passed away that October.
She loved to travel, often accompanied by her dear friend Wilmer (Bud) Brown. Together they visited relatives in many parts of Canada and the USA. Bus tours and trips to Polka Fests brought her joy. In 2004, she had the opportunity to go to Sweden to see places her brother had been during his final two years in WWII. She also visited his grave site at the War Cemetery in Berlin, Germany.
Her infectious laugh could warm your heart; her wonderful sense of humour and wit could bring you to tears. Music was very much a part of her life, to relax she’d spend time singing and playing the organ. She was a “force to be reckoned with” in many aspects of her life. Her mantra was “If you’re going to do something, do it to the best of your ability”; for her, that meant, perfectly!
Laurina will remain in the hearts of her children: Cheryl Korniski, Brian (Rayella) Waldner, Denise Korpan, Eloise (Lonnie) Mukanik, Kevin Waldner. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 19 great grand children.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Walter Kroeker in WWII, Andrew, brothers Arthur (Sally) Kroeker, Benjamin (Tony) Kroeker, and Orlando (Margret) Kroeker, sons-in-law Edward Korpan and Conrad Korniski.
As per Laurina’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be gratefully accepted by Oliver Lodge, the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements entrusted to Martens Warman Funeral Home (306) 934-4888.
