Obituary
Husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Don passed away October 10, 2022, at the age of 90 years.
Don is survived by the love of his life, Eileen, after celebrating 69 years of marriage. Don is also survived by his children Barb (Mitch), David, Chrissy and Karen (Brian), grandchildren Shaun (Janet), Craig (Amanda), Liz (Jason), Kyle (Ellie), Brett, Sam, Kelsey (Kyle) and great grandchildren Alexis, Jewel, Faith, Evan, Bella, Bear, Ben, MacKenzie, Logan and Baby Scott arriving in early January.
Don was born in Edson as the youngest child of Aquilla and Helen Maxwell. He completed all of his grade schooling in Edson and attended the Red Brick School, which still stands as a historical site across the street from their home.
Don met the love of his life, Eileen Payne, and married her in a small ceremony in Edmonton on March 28, 1953, with best friends Mildred Brown and David Mathers as their witnesses.
Don attended SAIT and apprenticed as an electrician in 1954 and continued with his schooling and performing his trade to become a Master Electrician in 1969. During his apprenticeship he joined his brother and cousin in their plumbing/gas fitting business and Maxwell’s Electric was established once he became a Master Electrician. Don continued in the electrical field until he joined Luscar Sterco as a warehouseman and purchaser, where he worked until retirement.
Other than his short times away for attending SAIT, Don lived in the Edson area his entire life. The most memorable home (Dogpatch) being on the mouth of the Edson and MacLeod Rivers where they lived for 19 years before moving back into town.
Don was an avid fisherman, curler, golfer and loved the outdoors and camping. He loved to travel and Hawaii became a favourite destination for him and Eileen.
Don volunteered for the Edson Curling Club for many years and was also a volunteer fireman in Edson for 19 years and had many tales to tell of the fires he attended.
Don is predeceased by his infant son Bruce, parents Aquilla and Helen Maxwell, brother Allan Maxwell and sister Kathleen Christie.
