SHIELDS, Edith Florence (née McDougall)
September 17, 1931 – October 6, 2022
It is with a deep sense of sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Florence on October 6, 2022 at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, William Kenneth Shields on December 24, 2016. She was also predeceased by her sister Jessie, brother Ken and sister Marilyn. Left to miss her are brothers Dan and Jim (Barbara) and sisters Heather (Frank) and Lynn.
Edith was born on September 17, 1931, and she was raised in the Parkhill community of Calgary. She was the oldest of 8 children and there was never a family gathering when there weren’t 3 or 4 stories about growing up in Parkhill. A lover of fashion, Edith worked a variety of retail jobs throughout her life. She shared in the excitement of horseracing with her late husband Ken. Together they enjoyed vacations in Phoenix and annual trips to Coeur d’Alene. She also looked forward to her Tuesday night bingo games with friends.
Edith was a loving wife, Mom, Grandma and Nana. She is survived by three children, Ken (Carol), Karen (Jim) Floyd, Kathy (Gord) Dodwell. She was Grandma to Lisa (Rory) Greaves, Lindsay Dodwell, Kelsey (Matthew) Ravlich and Allison (Kelly) MacKenzie. She loved her six great grandchildren, Dylan and Liam Greaves, Hudson and Harper MacKenzie and Lochlan and Bryden Ravlich.
No formal service will be held as she had requested a family celebration of life.
