Obituary
On Sunday, October 5, 2022, Rodger Wayne Thomas, loving partner to Vicky, father to Allison (Rob) and granddad to Isabelle and Sophia, peacefully passed away at age seventy six. In addition to being an avid active member of the Lacombe Golf and Country Club, Rodger was a trusted business partner and licensed pipeline inspector.
Rodger was born in Swan River, Manitoba, lived in several BC places and eventually landed in Calgary where he met the love of his life Vicky whom he married in 1968. They moved to Kitchener, Ontario where Rodger honed his industrial radiographic skills working in nuclear power plants and ship yards. It was here that he began life as a father to Allison.
After living in more than a few locations the family eventually settled in Lacombe (’77) where they built and moved into their forever home. It was here that Rodger and his business partner, Gord Mather, started and successfully operated Chinook Radiographic Services (’81 – ’98). Rodger then consulted as a licensed pipeline inspector and continued on as a trusted and well regarded professional.
Rodger loved to travel, especially to spend time with Allison and her family (he went as far as Guatemala, England and Australia to do so). Rodger enjoyed baseball and was an enduring Oiler fan. He was well versed in being the second in command to Vicky when it came to their garden. Rodger was fully devoted to being a family man and granddad to Isabelle and Sophia. Whilst in the presence of his grandchildren, he was always smiling (or having a little chuckle).
Rodger had a great community of friends, enjoyed happy hour and was a generous spirit.
He is survived by his wife Vicky, their daughter Allison, son-in-law Rob, grandchildren Isabelle and Sophia, his brother Edwin, sister in laws Sherry, Elizabeth, Susan, (Ken), brother in law Dick and several nieces and nephews, all of whom he admired, loved and enjoyed spending time with.
An afternoon happy hour celebration will take place at the Lacombe Golf and Country Club on December 9th at 3:00 pm for family, friends and golf community.
