Obituary For Phyllis Marie Lossing
March 2, 1920 – October 4, 2022
Lovingly Remembered
On October 4, 2022, our dear matriarch, Phyllis (Eyres) Lossing passed away peacefully at the Hythe Continuing Care Center at the age of 102 years.
Mom was born in Dodsland, Saskatchewan on March 2, 1920. At age 9 the family moved to Chinook Valley and Northmark area. During that train ride young Phyllis saw spruce trees for the first time and never lost her love for trees. She planted them in every yard she had. In 1939 she came to Beaverlodge to work for Mr. and Mrs. Albright at the research station. She met Earl Lossing and married on December 31, 1941.
They made a full circle from farming to Town, to Chetwynd, Manning and back to Beaverlodge to farm some more. Phyllis and Earl loved travelling in the truck and camper, especially up north to Yukon and Alaska. They retired to Vernon, BC and then moved back to Beaverlodge in 1992.
Mom loved to garden, and her yards always looked amazing. At 72 she landscaped a double lot in Beaverlodge that was beautiful. Mom made jams, jellies, pickles and canned fruit. She gave her grandkids hundreds of jars of jelly, peaches and cherries over the years. The kids would often say: “when is Grandma coming with the grape jelly or fruit?”
She was an avid seamstress, sewing for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also knit countless pairs of socks for her whole family. Mom and Agnes also carted meals to the field for many years, always with kids in tow. Family was number 1 for her, right to the end.
Phyllis leaves her daughter, Beth (Dale) Milliken, sons Lyle (Lillian), Vernon (Debi), Kim (Carmen) and dear friend Agnes Lossing; eleven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.
She is predeceased by her husband Earl, infant son, Billie, grandson Cary Milliken, her parents Reg and Marie Eyres, in-laws Clarence and Elizabeth Lossing, three sisters; Cathlene, Doris and Mabel, and their spouses, a brother in-law Allan Lossing and a sister in-law Marie Lossing, nephews Vic, Michael, Ken, Lane and a niece, Lee.
A private family burial will take place on Saturday, October 8th at 3pm at the Beaverlodge Cemetery.
