Obituary
MacDonald, Michael “Shane”
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Michael “Shane” MacDonald in his 59th year. Shane was born on February 7, 1964 to Marie MacDonald (nee Cheverie) and the late Reg MacDonald and grew up in the town of Freelton. He was heavily involved with the community and developed many close friendships while playing and coaching both baseball and hockey. He was also involved with Softball Ontario as an instructor. He enjoyed reading and had a wealth of knowledge that his family often deferred to. He developed a lifelong passion of collecting sports cards, coins, stamps and comic books. A fan of all sports, Shane cheered emphatically for his beloved Leafs, Jays and Tiger Cats. He was a man of great faith and was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Freelton.
Left to mourn him are his “Pride and Joy”, his children, Jamie and Danielle MacDonald. They are predeceased by their mother, Julie MacDonald (nee Waites). Sharing in their sadness is Shane’s mother, Marie MacDonald. As her first born, they shared a very close and special bond. Beloved big brother of David (Sherry), Paul (Marisa), Marc (Edwina), Scott (Heidi) and the youngest, his sister, Janine . He is also lovingly remembered by his “Big Brother”, Jim (Sharon) Larkin and family. A fantastic uncle to his nieces and nephews, Holly, Shannon, Travis, Noah (Erenna), Aaron, Elijah, Jonah, Amber, Ben, Meghan, and Lauren. Shane is also mourned by his many relatives and friends in PEI .
Visitation will be held at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer Vigil at 7:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 79 Freelton Rd. Freelton, ON at 11:00 a.m., Father Ed Mahony celebrant. Interment to follow in the churchyard cemetery. Reception to be held in Marian Hall.
