Randy William Hopkins
August 9, 1957 – September 23, 2022
It is with a sense of profound loss that we announce Randy’s death. He had just turned 65.
Left to mourn is his wife, Carol, of 43 years; daughter, Anastacia, of St. John’s, Newfoundland; son, Ryan, of Fort McMurray, AB; daughter Kelly, of Fort McMurray, AB; daughter-in law Paula (Wells), of Fort McMurray, AB; father, Buddy Hopkins, of Boswarlos, Newfoundland; siblings, Terrylynn (Clarence) Edison, Leonard, Wayne (Jennifer), Greg, and Kathy (Dave) Kurt; in-laws, Peggy (Wayne) Harvey, Bernie (Debbie) Morrissey, Betty (Larry) Coe, Tom (Juanita) Morrissey, Randy (Mary) Morrissey, Lorna Morrissey; as well as innumerable nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, and uncles
Randy was predeceased by his mother, Theresa May (Blanchard) Hopkins and brothers-in-law Chris and Marty Morrissey.
Randy was a commercial truck driver and travelled mainly between Toronto and Mexico.
Diabetes led to heart disease and forced him to quit this occupation he loved so much. He had an incredible sense of humour and loved clowning around and making people laugh. Diabetes also led to kidney disease and while on dialysis he loved to joke with his nurses and fellow patients. He loved to bake and often would bring baked goods to the nurses on the dialysis unit.
Randy really was the quintessential family man. He loved his wife and children and all his family. His sisters will undoubtedly miss his daily phone calls, as will his dad, and especially his daughter.
When he was a bit younger and in good health he loved to play with his nieces and nephews, wrestling on the floor or giving them piggy-back rides, among other things. As one of our nieces once said, “Uncle Randy is the kind of uncle every kid should have.”
He loved his children so very much and was immensely proud of them. If they hurt, he hurt. He wanted more than anything to give them everything they needed and/or wanted. Yet, what they treasured most was his devotion and love.
Randy left such a huge hole in all our hearts which we will endeavor to fill with love for one another and with the endless memories, both sweet and sad, that he bequeathed us. We have been so blessed to have him in our lives. To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement of epic proportions!
For those who want to pay their respects there will be a visitation on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Due to the extremely fragile health of a family member, we must insist masks be worn. Hand sanitizer will be provided. Please respect the family’s wishes in this matter.
