Joyce Carolyn Sewell – Age 91 of Blaine born November 6, 1930 –passed away September 17,2022 peacefully with her family by her side. Mrs. Sewell was the first woman elected to the Grainger County Board of Commissioners and served for 20 years. She was a member of the Tennessee County Commissioners Association (TCCA) and served as President and Treasurer. She was also the First Woman President of the Grainger County Chamber of Commerce and the Grainger County Woman of the year in 1996. She was a Member of Second United Methodist Church and Roseberry Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Wade and her husband, John Sewell, Sr. She is survived by her sister Jerri Marsee (Charles), her children: Kathy Sewell, Lorna Mireles (Alfredo), John Sewell, Jr. (Beth), Deborah Sewell, Randy Sewell (Angie). Grandchildren: John Wall, Jennifer Wall, Trey Sewell (Rachael), Bradley Sewell (Laura), Wesley Sewell (Tessa). Great grandchild, Theodore Sewell. The family and friends will gather at Grainger Memorial Gardens at 1:45 PM, Wednesday, September 21, 2022 for a 2:00 PM service, with Rev. Danny Hill officiating. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grainger County Humane Society at 2603 Rocky Springs Rd. Bean Station Tn. 37708.
