Obituary for
Shirley Irene Harrold
Our family wishes to announce the sudden passing of Shirley Irene Harrold, after a long and vibrant life, on January 4, 2022 at the age of 93 years.
Born and schooled in Edmonton, Shirley always wanted to be a nurse and was a graduate of the Lamont Hospital/Archer Memorial School of Nursing in 1951.Her nursing career included serving as Director of Nursing at the Long Term Care Unit at Lamont. One of her later-in-life projects was to create a compilation of biographies of the close to 600 graduates of the Nursing School at Lamont for both the archives of the Lamont hospital and the Provincial Archives.
Shirley also brought her many skills to the running of the family farm, often acting as the “Hub” (also known as “Grand Central Station!”) She was an enthusiastic gardener who loved growing and preparing food for her family and community.
She was known by many for her involvement in the Lamont United Church, through serving in various capacities as a member of many boards and committees, Superintendent of Junior Sunday School, participating in the United Church Women and her many years of singing with the choir.
She was an honest, wise, and loving guide to all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the many others who called her “Grandma.”
Shirley is lovingly remembered by Kent, her best friend and husband for over 70 years; son, Kirk (Trudy); grandson, Geoff (Stephanie); [great-grandchildren, Landen, Kashten, Bensen, Lilyen]; daughter, Barbara-Lynn (David); granddaughter, Christie (Patrick); [great-grandchildren, Caleb, Evan]; granddaughter, Alicia (David); [great-grandchild, Zachary]; granddaughter, Bethany (Clayton); [great-grandchildren, Summerlyn, Brendan, Channing, Cullen]; grandson, Davin; and son, Gary (Jocelyn); granddaughter, Catriona (Alan); [great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Lucas, Cayman]; grandson, Brent; [great-grandchildren Cadence, Paige, Silas]; grandson, Alexei; grandson, Daniel; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Our family wishes to extend their gratitude for the many expressions of compassion and support during this difficult time.
Due to COVID restrictions, arrangements for memorial events will be made at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lamont Health Care Centre, Patient Comforts Fund.
