Robert Charles Scott (Bob) passed away
at the age of 86 on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, with his loving wife
of 63 years, Gayle Scott, by his side. Bob was born on November 19,
1935, in Moncton, the oldest son of Charles & Ida (Burke)
Scott.
Bob was a long-time employee of
Moncton Times & Transcript. He started as a paper carrier and
retired in 1994 as Mail Room Foreman with 43 years of
service.
Outside of work Bob was an active
participant in community events, organizations, sports and activities,
anywhere he could meet new people. For years he was an active member
of Progressive Conservative Party, especially in the years of the
Bernard Lord government. He was quite skilled at bowling and took up
curling upon his retirement. One of his lifelong passions was
motorcycling. In his early 20’s he owned some of the fastest
models of the day. In 1960, 61 and 62 he won the Maritime Drag Racing
Championship. After retiring, both Bob and Gayle had road bikes and
enjoyed many rides and trips locally and as far as British Columbia
and California. For many consecutive years Bob rode in the annual Toys
for Tots Charity ride in Sackville, NB. Every year he would receive
the “Most Mature Rider” award which he was quite proud of.
After so many years the award was named “The Bob Scott
Award”.
He enjoyed becoming involved in
whatever his sons’ interests were; from being a Cubs and
Scouts leader, hockey coach, baseball coach to a motorcycle racing
referee.
Besides his parents he was predeceased
by his two sisters, Shirley Bourque and Barbara Walker and his brother
Ralph Scott.
Bob is survived by his wife Gayle
Scott and his three sons, Steven (Christine Dempsey), Michael and
Shane; plus three grandchildren, Patricia Scott, Alice Scott (Eric
Doucet) and Anthony Blanchard; and six great-grand
children.
A Celebration of Bob’s life
