Donald Edward Phipps
It is with a heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Edward Phipps. Don passed peacefully in his sleep at Vision nursing home on Sunday August 28th in his 90th year. Don was predeceased by his loving wife Pat a year and a half ago, also his parents Edward Phipps (Raleigh Township of Kent) and Joan (Christie) of Aberdeen Scotland, his sister Grace (Paul) Yott, step-sister Lucy (Fred) Ernteman and her brother John (Dorothy) McGuire who were raised as brother and sister to Don and Grace. As a young man Don moved to Gananoque to work and with a few co-workers they joined the Masons and later the Shrine Club. After returning to Sarnia he moved to the local Shrine Club where he played a flute type instrument in the marching band. After Don retired from Shell Oil he and Pat bought a motor home and traveled, eventually selling this and buying a trailer in Fort Myers, Florida where they spent many winters with a close knit community they enjoyed immensely. Don leaves behind many nieces and nephews, Joan and Don Yott, Marci Vernon (Tim), Jan Vernon, Patti Vernon (Mike), John Vernon, Mike Vernon (Melissa). Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Shriners Hospital for Sick Children, 1003 Decarie Boulevard, Montreal, PQ, H4A 0A9 or through www.shrinerschildrens.org. Private cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 102 N. Victoria Street, Sarnia, N7T 5W9.
