Robert Cecil Munson September 1st 2022

Munson, Robert (Bob) Cecil
October 27, 1929, to September 1, 2022
Bob Munson passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the age of 92 years. He will be forever missed by his daughters Carol (Jim) Whitney, Marion (Len) Thompson, and Sharon Skage; his grandchildren Rob (Nira) and Heather; Jesse (Sarah), Jena (Ryan), and Lindsay (Jeff); and Jennifer and Kristen (Tim); and his great-grandchildren Anjali, Amara, and Rheya; Zachary, Mikayla, and Jordan; and Catharina, Gabriella, and Henry.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis, in 2020, his brother, Harold, in 2007, his many brothers- and sisters-in law, and his parents.
Born the youngest son of Marie and Lloyd Munson, Bob spent his early years on the family farm near Vulcan, Alberta. He went to work for Calgary Power as a rural helper (later renamed apprentice lineman) in 1948, the start of an impressive career that would see him work his way up through the company until retiring as “the company statesman” after 38 years. Perhaps the most important move he made with Calgary Power, however, was asking out the pretty stenographer at the Camrose office, Phyllis Broughton. They married in 1951, residing first in Calgary (where Carol was born), then Olds (where Marion was born), Hardisty, and Blairmore (where Sharon was born) before moving to Sylvan Lake. In 1971 they moved to Red Deer where Bob was Division Supervisor, then Camrose (where the company name changed to TransAlta Utilities), returning to Red Deer in 1982 where he retired in 1986 as Division Manager.
After retiring, Bob and Phyllis spent more than 25 years as snowbirds, spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona, and summers in Red Deer. They were avid golfers and spent a lot of their summers travelling around Alberta exploring different golf courses. Music was always an important part of their lives, with Phyllis playing the piano and Bob, the trumpet. In addition to 34 years playing with the Golden Music Makers in Red Deer and with other bands in Arizona, Bob was well known for his fine woodworking skills, making countless pieces of furniture treasured by family and friends. Both before and after retirement the Munsons enjoyed life to the fullest, making close friends wherever they went and being active members of their community. Nothing pleased them more than when family came home; the house was filled with laughter, good food, and homemade music.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Timberstone Mews for their care of both Phyllis and Bob and for the lovely community that they have created for their residents.
At Bob’s request there will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Robert Cecil Munson September 1st 2022..
