Lucille Ann James passed away July 19, 2022 at Wainwright Long Term Care facility after a lengthy illness at the age of 79 years. Born December 9, 1942 at Claresholm Hospital to parents John and Shirley Hay of Nanton, she was predeceased by her husband Ben James on Sept 13, 2018. She was also predeceased by her parents, brother in-law Daniel Smith, brother-in-law Ken James, sister in-law Eleanor James and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lucille is survived by sisters Serena Smith of Nanton and Sandy Molendyk (Jan) of Three Hills; nephews John and Laura Laing Smith and Children Clayton (Darby), Shelby (Shane) Lloyd Smith of Calgary; Scott and Melissa Molendyk and their children Caleb and Claire of Penhold; Mark and Alyssa of Stettler and their children Ava and Levi; also surviving are Aunt Anita McCully of Calgary and Aunt Patty Atkinson of Nanton and several cousins, Ben’s Sisters, brother and their families.
Lucille spent her early childhood and teen years growing up on the family farm south west of Nanton where she enjoyed riding her horse, moving cows and numerous other chores. She attended Nanton Consolidated School and after graduation enrolled at Calgary Modern Business College. Upon completion of her courses she was employed in Nanton by Dr. Baker, the local veterinarian. As a teenager she was a member of the Nanton 4-H Calf Club, winning several championships and awards.
On July 24, 1965 she and Ben James were married and moved to the Edgerton area where they began farming. Lucille was a dedicated member of the order of the Eastern Star, both in Nanton and Edgerton Wainwright area. Her knowledge skills and expertise were valuable in assisting the local 4-H Club.
Due to declining health in 2015, a move was necessary to Battle River Lodge in Wainwright and then to long term care.
Graveside Services and Interment for family and close friends to take place at the Nanton Cemetery on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
