William Everett Evans, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother and uncle passed away peacefully at Rocky Mountain Village, Fernie, BC, August 19, 2022.
He was born July 25, 1927 in Prince Albert, SK, the fifth of seven children of George and Eleanor Evans. He leaves to mourn his daughters Marilyn (Meryl) Schellenberg and Sandy (Greg) Randall, grandchildren Scott (Victoria) Schellenberg, Twyla (Jesse) Criss, Jillian Randall (Chris) Nichols, Kara (Nate) Crosland, great-grandchildren Gavin, Hunter, Hannah and Blake Schellenberg, Tessa, Luca and Willa Crosland, and sister Dorothy Schneider, numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends. Everett was predeceased by his parents, Edith his beloved wife of 57 years, infant sons Douglas and Dale, four sisters Ruth (Harold) Riddell, Elizabeth (Wallace) Byggdin, Isabelle (Martin) Dahl and Hazel Belsher, brother Lawrence Evans and brother-in-law Hans Schneider.
Everett was raised on a farm near Davis, SK. He completed grade 11 and 12 in Prince Albert and wanted to continue his education but was required to help on the farm. He married Edith (Nordstrom) in 1951. They raised their family on a small farm west of Beatty, SK. In 1974, they moved to Fernie when Everett accepted the position of chief engineer for the newly opening Fernie district hospital. He retired in 1994 after 20 years of service.
He was a trustee of the Fernie Library Board and participated in the restoration of that beautiful heritage building. He also fulfilled a lifetime wish of taking piano lessons beginning at age 85 through 90.
Everett was active in the Melfort Nazarene Church in Saskatchewan and in the Fernie Mountainside Community Church. He was a supporter of missionaries and charitable organizations.
A guiding motto for his life was:
Let me not defer nor fail
For I shall not pass this way again.
As family we are grateful for those in Fernie who have maintained friendship with Dad, cared for and supported him as his years advanced and his health declined. Thank you to the Elk Valley Hospital staff, Dr. Michal, Dr. Clark, and to everyone at the Rocky Mountain Village for their care and support of this extraordinary gentleman.
Memorial donations may be made to Mountainside Community Church, Fernie, BC or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
