Obituary
Mary Magdalene Seguin (née Getz) passed away on August 23, 2022, at the age of 85 surrounded by her family.
Mary was born on February 28, 1937, in Francis, Saskatchewan where she was raised with her six siblings. Mary worked for Saskatchewan Government Telephones in Regina before she moved to Calgary in 1965 and worked for Alberta Government Telephones. Mary met her husband Emerson (predeceased) at a dancehall where he swept her off her feet and together raised a family of three daughters Caresse, Saralyn, and Nicole, and a son, Sean. Mary and Emerson were entrepreneurs and owned many restaurants during their years together. A move in 1976 took the family to Youngstown, Alberta where they owned and operated the Sportsman’s Inn on Hi-way 9, known by many holiday travelers traversing the province. Mary was an extraordinary cook and many came from miles around to enjoy her specialties. The family returned to Calgary in the fall of 1987 where Mary worked at The Bay as an Auditor, as well as at The Deli Café where she was always found tapping her toes to live folk music entertainment. Perhaps most revered for her amazing pizza ventures she operated and when she had time she was a caregiver for her grandchildren. Mary’s retirement years were spent with her family and friends and ultimately, enduring a valiant battle with cancer. She has been returned to the loving care of her parents, Michael and Veronica, and siblings Theresa (Ajlec) Sidloski and Wendlin (Janet) Getz.
Mary is survived by her children; her grandchildren Jordan, Joisee, Athena, Ariel, and Alexander; and her siblings Clarence (Dolores), Alphonse (Marlene), Evelyn (Freddie) Paslawski, and Diana (Edwin) Beaudin; numerous nieces, and nephews; and was “Aunty Grandma” to Devin and Brynn.
