Roger Clifford Cliff Huber Monday July 4th 2022

Roger Clifford Huber
December 5, 1941 – July 4, 2022
On July 4, 2022, Roger Clifford Huber passed away at his home in Kakabeka Falls with his life partner by his side.
Cliff was born December 5, 1941 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Catherine Touchbourne and Albert Huber. The family moved to Fort Frances, where Cliff attended elementary and secondary school. He attended Lakehead University and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and a Bachelor of Education Degree.
After teaching for a brief period in Atikokan, he returned to Thunder Bay, where he taught until his retirement in 1998. He loved teaching and working with all students, but had a penchant for teaching history in grades 7 & 8.
From an early age, Cliff loved history, politics, 50’s/60’s rock music, sports, and volunteerism. He worked on a number of political campaigns throughout his life, starting while in high school and continuing to more recent Provincial & Federal elections. Over a 30 year period, he coached numerous teams in a variety of sports. Since retiring 25 years ago, Cliff was involved with RTO’s Political Advocacy Committee, which successfully worked on a number of projects, from promoting the divided highway currently under construction, to issues involving wind and solar energy, to all things impacting seniors such as housing, health care, and access.
The accolades and awards that Cliff has received acknowledging his dedication to his volunteer work are many, with letters of appreciation from former Prime Ministers, politicians, organizations, and individuals. He was particularly proud to have been a recipient of the Spirit of Thunder Bay Award in 2012.
Cliff enjoyed many life-long friendships from his early days in high school in Fort Frances, and university in Thunder Bay, and was in regular contact with many of them. Since his retirement, he and a number of other retirees have met for breakfast every Thursday morning. They called themselves “The Romeos”, which stood for “Retired Older Men Eating Out”.
Cliff is survived by his life-partner, Shelley Gerig, sons Brian (Leeann) and Bradley (Brandy), four grandchildren, Tyler, Tanner, Dillon and Alexa. Although his sons live in Calgary (Brad) and the Arctic (Brian), Cliff enjoyed a special relationship with them, and never stopped being “Dad”. With his love of family, loyalty to friends, and dedication to causes and interests, Cliff assumed the roles of husband, father, friend, teacher, advocate, or lobbyist without hesitation, and answered to many names…Kip, Kipper, Squire, Mr H., Cliff, and Dad.
He is so missed.
Cliff was predeceased by his father in 1996 and his mother in 2003.
Interment has taken place at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Thunder Bay. A reception where friends and family can gather and share memories will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 2 – 4 pm at Everest of Thunder Bay – WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street in Thunder Bay .
If friends so desire, a donation, in Cliff’s memory, to the O’Connor Fire Department Auxillary, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated.
