David’s Obituary
David P. Burke passed away on August 20, 2022, at the age of 73 in the Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS after a short and aggressive battle with cancer. Dave was born in Weymouth, NS to Lloyd and Daphne Burke. At a young age, Dave moved to Ontario and joined the Air Force. He later worked as a Correctional Officer at the Guelph Correctional Centre until his retirement. He then moved back home to NS, as was his dream, and spent his remaining years in Bridgetown.
He loved working outside, cutting trees and landscaping. He was passionate about puttering in his workshop making Nutcracker soldiers and snowmen. He loved the game of hockey and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. Dave played the position of goaltender from a young boy until he retired his mitt and blocker at the age of 68. He played for the Guelph Firefighters and different teams but the highlight of his hockey years was when he was goalie playing against the NHL Oldtimers. But Dave’s greatest save of all time was trusting in Jesus Christ, which gave him peace and hope.
Dave was predeceased by his father Lloyd, mother Daphne, sister Jean, son Davy & brother-in-law Phillip Lombard. He is survived by siblings, Andrew Burke (Terry), Susan Lombard, Kathy Babin (Ken), daughter Tammy Adams, grandchild, step-grandchildren, nieces & great nieces, nephews & great nephews, cousins, friends, and hockey buddies. As per Dave’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Private burial to be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Weymouth. To all who loved him, Dave will be remembered for his quick wit, the nicknames he gave us and his comical comebacks and funny sayings. We will miss him with all our hearts.
