Royce Bert Pierson was born January 18, 1935, in Calgary, Alberta. Passed away August 3, 2022, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 87.
Royce is survived by his children, Cheryl Stewart (Charles), William “Bill” Pierson (Memory), Laurea Rolfson, Curt Pierson (Sue), Carla Pierson, and Jeremy Hyrve. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Royce was predeceased by his parents William Gilbert Pierson and Mary Lucille Tufts Pierson, and his sister Jane Elizabeth Charest.
Royce was raised in Barnwell, Alberta. He and his family lived in the CP Rail station house where his father was station manager for 50 years. Royce took great pride in coming from a long line of LDS pioneer heritage on both sides of his family.
His early schooling was in Barnwell, Alberta. Royce then attended high school in Taber, Alberta. After high school, Royce attended SAIT in Calgary, where he trained for, and excelled in, his carpentry skills. He then worked many years as a finishing carpenter. While living in Edmonton, Royce became a supervisor while building high-rises for the Pool Construction Company. Later, his lifelong passion for photography developed into a new career path. He received professional photography training in Chicago and California. Royce later owned and operated Tigerstedt studio in Calgary.
Royce was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a proselytizing mission for his church in Australia in the late 1950s. Because of his testimony, Royce was known to be a great teacher and missionary. Throughout his life he was an avid genealogist.
Being talented, precise, and accurate in all he did was an asset in his various occupations and interests. He loved many things, but especially; ballroom dancing, genealogy, reading and researching, gathering quotes, recipes, and dad jokes, photography, photo airbrushing and retouching, and carpentry and wood working.
A family memorial service will be held for Royce in Taber, Alberta, at a later date.
