Verna Lily LeFurgey 1923 2022

Verna LeFurgey, 98, of Veterans Health Centre, passed away
peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Born in Moncton, she was the
daughter of the late Charles and Daisy (Simmons) Smith.
Verna retired from the Moncton Hospital Lab with 24 years of
service. She was a member of Harrisville United Protestant Church. A
Veteran of WW II, having served with the RCAF WD. Verna was the first
lady member of the Moncton Legion Branch #6 in 1945 as well as a life
member of the Air Force Veterans Club.
Verna is survived by her children Peter Swetnam (Shelly)
Kenneth Swetnam (Joanne) and Barbara Amos (Ron Beers); 10
grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and two great great
grandchildren, step daughter Phyllis MacLaughlin (Donald), sister Lila
Sloan and Brother Ralph Smith (Ann).
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her first
husband William Swetnam (1974), second husband Jackson
“Jack” LeFurgey (1992), son Michael Swetnam(2008), daughter
Brenda Richard (2017), step daughters Karen Pearce and Carol Boham,
sister Nelda Goodwin, brother Sterling Smith.
A heartfelt thankyou to the staff of the Veterans Health
Centre, for their love and care shown to Verna and her family for the
past 7 years.
In honoring Verna’s wishes, there will be no
Funeral Service or visiting hours Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657
Mountain Rd. Moncton, NB (858-1995) in care of arrangements. A private
family graveside service will take place at Lakeside Cemetery,
Lakeville NB, in the spring.
Donations in Verna memory may be made to the charity of the
donor’s choice.
