Eddie was born on October 26, 1930 and was raised on the family farm at Colfax, Sask. He grew up having fun times with his sisters and cousins and after moving to Edmonton as a young man, came back to the farm life where he continued to work on, and love the land, for many years.
He married Shirley McIver on August 19, 1955 and together they raised 4 children. Many trips were made for hockey games, sports days, music lessons, school concerts, swimming lessons and ball games. Ed and Shirley were always busy – with the kids and as community members. Ed served on the church board for many years, sang in the church choir, and served on the council for the RM of Wellington. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge and maintained his membership with them his whole life. Ed could always be counted on to help out a neighbour and he took great pride in working on community projects and volunteering for any event that was happening in and around Colfax.
Ed and Shirley retired to Weyburn in 1999. In his retirement years, Eddie enjoyed curling, golf, some special fishing excursions, his church community, his coffee buddies, and the many activities at the Wheatland Senior Center. He loved living on Duncan Drive and cherished his friendships with his very special next-door neighbors. He took pride in his home and his yard and was grateful to be able to live on his own until well after his 91st birthday.
Eddie enjoyed something about every day for as long as he could. He was a kind, generous man who loved his family and his friends with all his heart. His 12 grandchildren were a huge source of pride for him and he could always tell you what each of them were doing at any point in their lives. His 12 precious great-grandchildren were pure joy for him! He loved to see them grow and they always brought a huge smile to his face.
Ed led a good life and he always found the good in people. He loved to visit and was genuinely interested in all that everyone had to say. He always had words of advice– and words of praise. He believed in hard work and he believed in finding joy in every day.
