Hannah Keenan Sunday August 7th 2022

KEENAN, Hannah Margaret
January 5, 1931—August 7, 2022
Mom left us suddenly on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Hannah is now reunited with her late husband Jack, of 63 years, who died in 2016. Mourned by her five children and their spouses Patricia (Brent Sutton), Catherine (Sam Clarke), Greg (Patti Tasko), Mary Ellen (Mike Reid) and Michael (Carolyn Thompson). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Emily Dunn (Trevor), Breanna Sutton (Conrad Skorniewski); Kathleen, Erin and Patrick Keenan; Nathan Thompson (Brittany Lake), Andrew and Sarah Keenan. She is survived by her sister Jeni Mason of Calgary and her sister-in-law Betty McQueen of Toronto, predeceased by her brothers William and Robert McQueen. She will be held dear in the hearts of her niece and nephew, family and friends.
Hannah was a child of the Great Depression and inherited the Scottish thrift of her parents Robert and Margaret McQueen. She was a Sinatra bobby soxer in the 1940s and a teacher in the 1950s. Her children often joked with her about her graduation from Toronto Normal School, which is what the faculty of education was called when she was a student. The Keenan household in Etobicoke was a gathering spot for relatives on the high Catholic holidays and throughout the year. “Bounteous food and drink, plus scintillating conversation are hallmarks of these gatherings,” John Reilly Keenan, who possessed a permanent pass to any celebration, remarked in his book The Adjala Connection. Often at Christmas or Easter there were invitees who would otherwise have had nowhere else to go. When her grandchildren began arriving in 1988, she doted on them and rarely missed a sporting event or recital. Hannah was a 60-year member of the Catholic Women’s League of Transfiguration of Our Lord Church and was president of the group from 1981 to 1983. Her faith in God will sustain her on her next journey.
Visitation at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue, Toronto (North of Rexdale Boulevard) on Tuesday, August, 16, 2022 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Her life will be celebrated at a funeral mass at Transfiguration of Our Lord Catholic Church, 45 Ludstone Drive, Toronto at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
