Beloved husband of Catherine (Tancek) of 62 years. Loving father of Maria (Francis Gobbi), Bob (Ivana), Lisa (Jon Lundergan), and Jeff (Debbie).
Much loved Grandpa of Anthony, Stephen, Christopher, Matthew, Daniel, Elyse, Samantha, Luca, Jessica and Heather and Great Grandpa to six great grandchildren.
Mario will be missed by his brothers Giovanni of Milton, Pino (Francesca), Toni (Marcella) of Italy as well as sisters Maria and Bertilla (Toni Simionato) of Italy and brother- in-law Fred Vogel of Williamstown; predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-laws Pietro (Gina), Mose (Censina), as well as in-laws Mario Simionato, Gina Mazzorato, Edwin and Louise Tancek and Anne Marie Vogel.
Mario arrived in Canada in 1953 with the intent of returning to his much loved homeland of Italy, but his plans changed when he met his beloved Catherine, whom he married in June of 1960. Although he made many return trips to Italy for visits, he spent many happy years in Canada raising his family and enjoying the company of and laughter with friends. Anyone who knew Mario, knew he loved to work but also loved to dance. These joys of his are shared by his children and grandchildren alike.
A big thank you to Dr. Tobin and to his nurse Kayla who were always an email away and so helpful. Also to the nurses from Bayshore, particularly Jessica and the many PSW’s from Care Partners. Lastly, to the family and friends who visited or called – all the help and support we received was so much appreciated.
The family will receive family and friends at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home (Hart Chapel), 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, on Sunday August 14, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm., with a prayer vigil at 3:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 409 Paisley Road, Guelph on Monday August 15, at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation Guelph or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
