Mary Savard 2022

It is with profound sadness, that the family of Mary Grace Savard announces her passing on January 9th, 2022.
She will be loved, cherished and remembered with the highest esteem in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who knew her.
Mom is survived by her four sons and their families: Reg (Therese) and their children: Marc (Amanda), children Shelley and AJ; Nicole (John) children Kate and Meg, Rene and his children: Rochelle and her daughter Jessika; Rebecca (Cory) children Hailee and Brady, Jacqueline, Joshua (Daniella) and their son Christian. Ross and Cathy. Rob and Tamee.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 plus years, Frank (2010); her parents, Aloysius and May Butler; her three sisters, Louise, Shirley and Kathleen; her daughter-in-law, Debbie and grandson in-law, Darren.
Mom was born in the Onoway Hospital on July 5th, 1929. She grew up on the family farm near Sion, Alberta. Being the oldest daughter in a family with no sons, she became her father’s right hand man. She willingly accepted the role and took great pride in developing her farming skills to help support the family.
On November 2, 1949, she married Frank Savard, that particular day still holds the record for the highest temperature in that area. Their first homes together were on the shores of Lac La Nonne, a theme that would continue later in their married life.
Following the birth of their oldest, Mom and Dad moved to Edmonton, where Mom continued to develop in her most cherished career, that of homemaker, wife and mother. Mom relished being a stay-at-home mom and later was referred to with reverence as the original Block Parent.
Mom became a self-taught chef with a little help from her mom, mother-in-law and Purity Cook Books. Her meals were delicious, healthy and plentiful as one might expect, having to feed Dad and four growing boys. Mom had a bit of a sweet tooth, as well, which ensured there was always an array of tasty desserts for every meal.
Mom’s escapes from the daily rigors were reading, bingo and bowling, pastimes which she enjoyed immensely.
The family purchased property on Lac La Nonne in 1963 and spent years enjoying all the lake had to offer. Many hours were spent at the kitchen table playing cards with family and neighbors. Occasionally, Mom would even let Dad win.
Mom was totally devoted to her family. She spent countless hours at the Kipnes Center, where Dad resided in the final years of his life. She was an excellent listener and only offered her sage advice when requested. Mom was a devout Catholic and made sure her boys were well versed in the Catholic way of life.
Mom led an exemplary life of loving and caring for her family and those around her. She set the bar very high for those who care to follow in her footsteps. She will be severely missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held, and livestreamed, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Connelly McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton. Interment will take place at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Lac La Nonne, AB
Special thanks to the staff of Rosedale Griesbach, Balwin Villa, Capital Care Grandview and Benevolence Care Center for the excellent care and respect they afforded Mom.
