Riva Rauch Nee Ross 2022

Riva Rauch (Née Ross)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Riva Rauch, a remarkable woman, devoted wife of the late Joseph Rauch, and beloved mother of Joyce and Alan Rauch and their spouses Eric Skipp and the late Amy Dykeman. Riva was also a loving and devoted daughter (the late Anne Rubin Ross and the late Al Ross), daughter-in-law (the late Rose and the late Abraham Rauch), and sister-in-law (the late Harold [Aaron], the late Bernard, and the late Edward Rauch, and the late Florence Golt) and their spouses (Lynne and the late Irene Rauch, and the late Gerald Golt). She was a unifying force for the Rauch, Rubin, and Rasnikoff families, and a much-loved aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She kept particularly close touch with Judith Rubin, Ina Andre, Freema Elbaz, and Reva Stone, and they with her. Born at the Royal Victoria Hospital in 1931, she died at the Jewish General Hospital a week after her 91st birthday. Riva was a caring and selfless individual who devoted herself tirelessly to her family, friends, and community. For many years, Riva was a “stay-at-home-mother” who dedicated herself to the upbringing of her children, and she took great pride in their accomplishments. She was a woman of relentless energy who also cared for her parents and her grandparents throughout their lifetimes.
As a girl, Riva attended Strathcona Academy, where she bonded with her lifelong friends Mildred Nathanson and Norah Freedman, and the trio effectively became the equivalent of sisters. The three friends attended McGill University, each earning degrees in different areas. Riva obtained her B.Sc. in 1952, an education that sustained her interest over the years particularly when she served as a laboratory instructor at Concordia University. Later in life, she met Heide Kaspar Glorieux, who was a dedicated and close friend, and the Gisser Family, who was very devoted to her. Her many friends are too numerous to recount, as Riva was loved by all who met her and experienced her warmth, generosity, and joie de vivre. If people needed her assistance, she was there immediately to support them, whether it meant working in a friend’s restaurant, volunteering at the Jewish General Hospital, or actively working with the Liberal Party.
As devoted as she was to others, the people who worked with her were passionately dedicated to her. This included a wonderful group of caregivers, most recently: Ann, Charlotte, Colleen, Evelyn, Kriss, Linda, Marichu, Salene, Sharon, Susan, Tina A, and Tina S; her exercise therapists over the years, Katalin, Jay, Trang, Lloyd, and Andreas; and Barbara, Joy, Annie, and Eva, who helped keep her house and personal appearance up to her high standards. All of these individuals made her life more comfortable and more meaningful. They felt genuine affection for Riva that was clearly a reflection of Riva’s regard and fondness for them. We also want to express our appreciation to the Cardiovascular Unit of the Jewish General Hospital, who took such good care of Riva over the past five weeks.
Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Friday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend the funeral service in person, you may join it virtually. Burial at the Baron de Hirsch Community Foundation Cemetery B24), de la Savane. Shiva is strictly private. Masks are mandatory at the funeral and shiva. Contributions in Riva’s memory may be made to the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, (514) 340-8251 (or), or to a charity of your choice.
